Dear Fergie. Some nights when my notification goes off at 10:45pm to ‘think of one happy Fergie memory’, I quiet myself, open my mind, and nothing comes to me. So I ask you to show me one of your favorite memories. ‘Find the fishies’ was one of them, as was another memory of us riding in a car with a sunroof (that I still can’t figure out because I don’t recall ever being in a car with a sunroof with you), and tonight when I asked you to show me one of your favorite memories, something interesting happened.
I saw the memory, but I saw it through your eyes. I was inside you, and you were on the beach at the Magnuson Park off-leash dog park in Seattle, and you were waiting for me to throw the ball into the water for you to fetch. You were dripping wet, but it was sunny and warm enough that you were comfortable.
You must have loved fetching the ball and swimming so much, because that memory came to me in seconds, even though I haven’t thought of that or looked at photos of that in years. Thank you so much for helping me when I draw blanks like this. And I’m so happy I got to take you swimming so many times in your life. I have a feeling there will be many more memories like that to come.
